VOLUNTEERS AT BLUE SKY SCHOOL

Ha pasado tiempo desde que no actualizamos el blog. Y, en este tiempo, muchas cosas han cambiado en Blue Sky School. Empezamos con el programa de voluntariado y tenemos que decir que estamos muy contentos con el resultado. De momento, han pasado por nuestra escuela 8 jóvenes daneses (Caroline, Signe, Johan, Mads, Eva, Stine, Johanne y Sandra) y gracias a sus consejos, a su trabajo, a sus conocimientos y experiencia el proyecto se está viendo muy enriquecido.

Muchas veces los voluntarios son invisibles en determinadas sociedades. No debería ser norma el apoyarse en esta figura para llevar adelante ciertos proyectos, principalmente los que tengan que ver con educación o salud. Pero, viendo que es una asignatura pendiente para muchas comunidades (y en gran parte en Africa), los voluntarios se vuelven fundamentales para poder ofrecer una educación de calidad a los niños.

Seguiremos informándoos de cómo vamos evolucionando y mejorando instalaciones gracias a estos jóvenes que, desinteresadamente, están dedicando su tiempo a nosotros.

It has been a long time since we do not update the blog. And during this time, many things have changed in Blue Sky School. We started with the volunteer program and we must say we are very happy with the results. So far, we received 8 Danish guys (Caroline, Signe, Johan, Mads, Eva, Stine, Johanne and Sandra) and thanks to their advices, their work, their knowledge and their experience the project is being highly enriched .

Often volunteers are invisible in certain societies. We should not rely on volunteers to carry out certain projects, mainly the ones related with education or health. But, as education is a pending issue for many communities (and largely in Africa), volunteers become fundamental to provide quality education to the children from those communities.

We will continue informing you about how we evolve and improve facilities thanks to these young people who unselfishly are devoting their time to us.

Programa especial de abril en Blue Sky School

Los coles en tanzania cierran en abril, agosto y diciembre. Pero, desde el principio, nos planteamos la idea de mantener el cole abierto, al menos este primer mes de abril...qué iban a hacer nuestros niños este mes? Nos los imaginamos jugando en la calle, con sus pelotas hechas de plásticos y cuerda. No era mala idea, pero...¿por qué no abrir el cole, diseñando un programa especial, y que jugasen a la pelota todos juntos?

 Nos pusimos manos a la obra...profesores, profesores asistentes y los responsables del cole nos reunimos en varias ocasiones para identificar qué actividades podían ser atractivas pero, a la vez, útiles para las vidas de los niños. Y al final salió un programa dedicado al juego, conocimiento del entorno y del medio ambiente, dedicado a potenciar las habilidades artisticas de nuestro niños...y también del inglés!

Ahora, un par de semanas después, el programa está siendo un éxito. En gran parte gracias a nuestras dos primeras voluntarias...pero eso será una historia que os contaré en otro momento!

Blue Sky School April´s special program

Schools in Tanzania usualy close in April, August and December. But from the beginning, we considered the idea of ​​keeping the school open, at least this first month of April ... What would our kids do this month, at home? We imagined them playing outside their homes with their balls made of plastic and ropes. It was not a bad idea, but ... why not opening the school, designing a special program, so they could play all together? We got down to work ... teachers, assistant teachers and the headteacher met several times to identify which activities could be attractive but, at the same time, useful for the lives of our children. And finally we design a program dedicated to play, to improve the knowledge of the environment and dedicated to enhance the artistic skills of our children.

Now, few weeks later, the program has been a success. Largely thanks to our first volunteers from Denmark...

Inauguración oficial y fiesta final de trimestre en Blue Sky School

El pasado 22 de marzo había mucho que celebrar. Primero, el final del primer trimestre. Por otro lado, dar a conocer nuestro proyecto a toda la comunidad de Nambala, la región en la que se encuentra el colegio.

En el evento, se plantaron tres árboles

Todo salió bien y no faltó la música (algunos de nuestros profesores se encargaron de cantar canciones tradicionales) y la buena comida tanzana.

Eran muchos los retos que teníamos delante cuando se abrió la escuela, y ver a nuestros alumnos contentos, empezando a chapurrear inglés, avanzando en sus estudios y disfrutando de su colegio es la mejor recompensa.

Sabíamos que no iba a ser una tarea facil pero nuestro esfuerzo diario está dando sus frutos y hoy os enseñamos un proyecto hecho realidad. Por supuesto aún tenemos mucho camino que recorrer, y hay varios retos que aún no hemos conseguido, pero con nuestro esfuerzo conseguiremos construir un equipo más y más fuerte.

Para ello, seguimos contanto con vuestra inestimable ayuda, y os seguimos pidiendo vuestro apoyo. El próximo reto: conseguir voluntarios! Animaos!

March 22nd: Official inauguration and First Term party
On March, 22nd, there were a lot of thing to celebrate in our school. First, the end of the first term. On the other hand, we wanted to show our proyect to al the people of Nambala region, where the school is located.
Everything went well and no shortage of music (some of our teachers sang traditional songs) and Tanzanian good food.

 

From the beginning we knew there was not going to be an easy task to get a school with happy students, happy staff members and with all the guarantees of providing high quality education. However, our daily work has paid off and today we show you a project that came true. Of course we still have a long way to go, and there are several challenges still not achieved, but through our efforts we will build a more and more strong team.

To reach all of our goals, we count on your invaluable help, and we will continue asing for your support. The next challenge: getting volunteers! Cheer up!

Nuevos alumnos en Blue Sky Pre and Primary School

Ayer recibimos a tres nuevos alumnos en Blue Sky Pre and Primary School. Se trata de Nasma (http://www.tuchifo.com/site/our-children/nasma-2), Swalehe y Maliki. Nasma y Swalehe se han introducido perfectamente en Class I. Maliki en nuestra Baby Class.

Estos tres niños proceden de un centro que se llama Tumaini children foundation, en Usa River (http://www.tuchifo.com/). En este centro hacen una labor importantísima ofreciendo cuidado, apoyo y educación a niños huérfanos o con grandes necesidades en la zona de Usa River.

Estos tres pequeños tienen un pasado complicado, por lo que en Blue Sky School les proporcionaremos un ambiente amigable donde puedan desarrollarse personalmente y académicamente de la mejor manera posible. Su futuro está en nuestras manos y es nuestra responsabilidad ofrecerles oportunidades para que puedan vivir en un ambiente seguro y lleno de amor.

New students at Blue Sky Pre and Primary School

Yesterday was the first day for three new students in our school. They are Nashma (http://www.tuchifo.com/site/our-children/nasma-2), Swalehe and Maliki. Nashma and Swalehe are now in Class I and Maliki in our Baby Class.

These three kids come from Tumaini Children Foundation, located at Usa River (http://www.tuchifo.com/). In this organization the play an important role offering care, support and education to orphans or needy kids around Usa River.

These kids have a complicated background, that´s why Blue Sky School will provide them a friendly environment where they can develop their personal and academic skills. Their future is in our hands and it´s our responsibility to give them opportunities so they will live in a safety environment and full of love.
